Job Summary

Our client in the Information & Communication Technology (ICT) industry is seeking an experienced and commercially driven General Manager to provide strategic leadership, operational oversight, and overall management of the organization.

The successful candidate will be responsible for translating the company’s strategic objectives into measurable business results, driving sustainable revenue growth, strengthening operational performance, overseeing service delivery, developing strategic partnerships, and ensuring effective coordination across commercial, technical, finance, and administrative functions.

The position requires a strong business leader with a sound understanding of ICT and technology-enabled services, combined with proven capability in managing people, operations, clients, projects, and commercial growth.

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic Leadership & Business Planning

  • Provide overall strategic and operational leadership to achieve the company’s short-term and long-term objectives.
  • Develop and execute annual business plans, strategic priorities, operational targets, and growth initiatives.
  • Translate organizational strategy into clear departmental objectives and measurable performance indicators.
  • Identify emerging ICT trends, market opportunities, technologies, and potential areas for business expansion.
  • Provide management with timely insights on business performance, strategic opportunities, operational challenges, and emerging risks.
  • Lead the implementation of approved strategic initiatives across the organization.
  • Ensure alignment between commercial, technical, operational, and financial priorities.

2. Business Growth & Commercial Management

  • Drive sustainable revenue growth across the company’s ICT products, solutions, and services.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities within corporate, institutional, and public sector markets.
  • Develop strategies to strengthen the company’s market presence and competitive positioning.
  • Oversee major proposals, tenders, commercial negotiations, and strategic business opportunities.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key clients, technology partners, suppliers, government institutions, and other stakeholders.
  • Monitor the business development pipeline and ensure commercial opportunities are effectively followed through to closure.
  • Identify opportunities for new services, partnerships, and market expansion.

3. Operational Management

  • Oversee day-to-day business operations and ensure effective coordination between departments.
  • Establish clear operating procedures, workflows, accountability structures, and reporting mechanisms.
  • Ensure organizational resources are efficiently allocated and utilized.
  • Monitor operational performance and implement corrective actions where required.
  • Drive continuous improvement in productivity, service delivery, internal processes, and operational efficiency.
  • Ensure projects and client commitments are delivered within agreed timelines, scope, quality standards, and commercial expectations.
  • Identify operational bottlenecks and implement practical solutions.

4. ICT Solutions & Service Delivery Oversight

  • Provide management oversight of the company’s ICT solutions, technology projects, and service delivery activities.
  • Work closely with technical teams to ensure solutions meet client requirements and agreed service standards.
  • Ensure effective coordination between business development, technical, project, and support teams throughout the client lifecycle.
  • Monitor major ICT projects and ensure timely escalation and resolution of significant delivery issues.
  • Promote innovation and adoption of appropriate technologies that strengthen organizational competitiveness.
  • Ensure client solutions are delivered professionally and consistently.
  • Support the development and improvement of the company’s technology and service portfolio.

5. Financial & Performance Management

  • Work closely with the finance function to develop annual budgets, financial forecasts, and performance targets.
  • Monitor revenue, expenditure, profitability, cash flow, and overall financial performance.
  • Review management reports and ensure appropriate action is taken where performance deviates from agreed targets.
  • Maintain strong commercial discipline across pricing, contracts, procurement, project execution, and expenditure.
  • Identify opportunities for cost optimization and improved profitability.
  • Ensure business decisions are supported by accurate financial and operational information.
  • Monitor departmental and organizational KPIs and ensure accountability for results.

6. People Leadership & Organizational Development

  • Lead, motivate, and develop employees across the organization.
  • Establish clear responsibilities, performance expectations, and accountability at departmental and individual levels.
  • Conduct regular management and performance review meetings.
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, training, development, and retention of high-performing employees.
  • Build effective collaboration between commercial, technical, finance, administration, and support functions.
  • Promote a professional, ethical, innovative, accountable, and performance-oriented workplace culture.
  • Identify skills and capability gaps and support appropriate development initiatives.

7. Client & Stakeholder Management

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key clients and strategic accounts.
  • Act as a senior escalation point for significant client, contractual, commercial, and project matters.
  • Ensure major client concerns are addressed professionally and within appropriate timelines.
  • Represent the organization at senior-level client meetings, negotiations, industry events, and stakeholder engagements.
  • Develop productive relationships with government institutions, regulators, technology partners, suppliers, and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Monitor customer satisfaction and ensure appropriate actions are taken to strengthen client relationships.


8. Governance, Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure business activities comply with applicable laws, regulations, contractual obligations, and internal policies.
  • Maintain appropriate management controls and reporting mechanisms.
  • Identify and manage strategic, financial, operational, commercial, technological, and reputational risks.
  • Ensure key corporate obligations, licences, contracts, and regulatory requirements are appropriately managed.
  • Promote high standards of corporate governance, integrity, confidentiality, accountability, and professional conduct.
  • Ensure appropriate business continuity and risk mitigation measures are maintained.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Management, Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, Economics, Commerce, or other related field.
  • Master’s Degree in Business Administration, Management, Information Technology Management, or other related field will be an added advantage.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant professional experience, preferably with demonstrated management or leadership responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated experience managing business operations, commercial growth, people, clients, and organizational performance.
  • Experience within the ICT, technology, telecommunications, systems integration, software, infrastructure, or other technology-enabled services environment is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of the ICT business environment and technology-enabled service delivery.
  • Proven commercial acumen and ability to identify and develop new revenue opportunities.
  • Good understanding of budgeting, financial management, profitability, and business performance analysis.
  • Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong strategic planning, decision-making, negotiation, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Excellent client and stakeholder relationship management skills.
  • Strong understanding of project and service delivery management.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Kiswahili.
  • Strong computer literacy and ability to work effectively with business management and reporting systems.
  • High level of integrity, accountability, professionalism, and results orientation.
  • Ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced and evolving ICT business environment.
