Job Summary
Our client in the Information & Communication Technology (ICT) industry is seeking a dynamic and results-oriented Business Development Officer to identify new commercial opportunities, develop prospective client relationships, and contribute to sustainable revenue growth across the company’s ICT products, solutions, and services.
The successful candidate will be responsible for developing the sales pipeline, engaging corporate and institutional clients, conducting market research, preparing proposals and presentations, coordinating tender opportunities, and supporting the conversion of qualified prospects into long-term business relationships.
The role requires a proactive and commercially focused professional who can understand client requirements, communicate technology solutions effectively, and consistently pursue new business opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
1. Business Development & Lead Generation
- Identify and develop new business opportunities across targeted industries and market segments.
- Generate qualified leads through market research, networking, referrals, direct outreach, industry events, and client engagement.
- Build and maintain a structured pipeline of prospective clients and commercial opportunities.
- Conduct regular prospecting activities targeting corporate, institutional, and public sector clients.
- Identify key decision-makers and establish professional relationships with prospective customers.
- Identify opportunities for cross-selling and expanding services within existing client accounts.
- Maintain accurate records of prospects, meetings, proposals, follow-ups, and opportunity status.
2. Sales & Revenue Growth
- Contribute toward achievement of agreed sales, revenue, and business development targets.
- Present the company’s ICT solutions, capabilities, and value propositions to prospective clients.
- Understand client requirements and coordinate with technical teams to develop appropriate solutions.
- Prepare professional quotations, commercial proposals, presentations, and related sales documentation.
- Follow up proposals and commercial discussions throughout the sales cycle.
- Support commercial negotiations and closing of new business opportunities.
- Maintain consistent follow-up with prospective clients to improve conversion.
- Monitor individual sales pipeline performance and provide regular forecasts.
3. Client Relationship Management
- Develop and maintain strong professional relationships with prospective and existing clients.
- Conduct client meetings, presentations, site visits, demonstrations, and follow-up engagements.
- Maintain regular communication with clients to understand current and emerging business requirements.
- Work closely with internal technical and operational teams to ensure smooth transition from business development to implementation.
- Support the resolution of client concerns and maintain high standards of customer service.
- Identify opportunities for contract renewal, additional services, and account growth.
- Maintain professional communication throughout the client lifecycle.
4. Market Research & Opportunity Identification
- Conduct market research to identify emerging technologies, customer needs, competitors, and commercial opportunities.
- Monitor developments within the ICT and broader technology market.
- Identify industries and market segments where the company’s technology solutions can create value.
- Gather and analyse information on competitors, pricing trends, market demand, and customer expectations.
- Provide management with relevant market intelligence to support commercial decision-making.
- Identify potential new products, solutions, partnerships, and market opportunities based on client and market feedback.
5. Tenders, Proposals & Partnerships
- Identify relevant public and private sector tender opportunities.
- Support preparation and submission of expressions of interest, proposals, quotations, and tender documentation.
- Coordinate internally to obtain technical, commercial, administrative, and compliance information required for submissions.
- Ensure proposals and tender submissions are accurate, professionally presented, compliant, and completed within deadlines.
- Maintain organized records of submitted proposals, tenders, and their outcomes.
- Support development of relationships with technology vendors, implementation partners, consultants, and other strategic partners.
- Participate in commercial discussions and negotiations where required.
6. Sales Reporting & Pipeline Management
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of leads, prospects, client meetings, proposals, and conversions.
- Prepare weekly and monthly business development and sales reports.
- Track relevant indicators including leads generated, meetings conducted, proposals submitted, conversion rates, pipeline value, and revenue performance.
- Provide realistic sales forecasts and communicate potential commercial opportunities and risks.
- Maintain client and opportunity information using CRM or other approved business systems.
- Monitor outstanding follow-ups and ensure opportunities progress through the appropriate sales stages.
7. Brand Representation & Networking
- Represent the organization professionally during client meetings, exhibitions, conferences, networking events, and industry engagements.
- Support marketing and promotional initiatives aimed at generating qualified commercial opportunities.
- Build professional networks across relevant industries and decision-making communities.
- Maintain a strong understanding of the company’s ICT products, services, capabilities, competitive advantages, and value propositions.
- Gather market and client feedback that can support improvements in products, services, marketing, and customer experience.
- Maintain a professional image consistent with the organization’s standards and values.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Sales, Commerce, Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, Economics, or other related field.
- Minimum 3 years of relevant professional experience in business development, B2B sales, account management, or other related commercial roles.
- Experience within the ICT, technology, telecommunications, software, systems integration, infrastructure, or other technology-enabled services industry is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated ability to identify leads and develop new business relationships.
- Experience engaging corporate, institutional, or government clients will be an added advantage.
- Strong understanding of B2B sales processes and sales pipeline management.
- Strong proposal writing, presentation, negotiation, and client engagement skills.
- Experience supporting tenders, expressions of interest, quotations, and commercial proposal preparation is desirable.
- Ability to understand client business requirements and communicate appropriate technology solutions.
- Strong commercial awareness and results orientation.
- Strong research, analytical, and market intelligence capabilities.
- Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Kiswahili.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with CRM or sales management systems.
- Self-motivated, proactive, persistent, and comfortable working toward defined targets.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with technical and operational teams.
- High level of professionalism, integrity, organization, and attention to detail.
