Backhoe Operator

Job Summary:
The Backhoe Operator will be responsible for safely operating backhoe loaders for excavation, trenching, loading, drainage, site preparation, and general estate-development activities. The role requires versatile equipment operation and careful execution of tasks in both open field and infrastructure work areas.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate backhoe loaders for excavation, trenching, loading, backfilling, and site-preparation activities.
- Support drainage, irrigation, road, and general civil works across the estate.
- Use both loader and excavator attachments effectively according to assigned tasks.
- Carry out daily pre-start inspections and report mechanical or operational defects.
- Perform basic operator-level maintenance, including fluid, tyre, hydraulic, and lubrication checks.
- Work carefully around existing infrastructure, pipelines, personnel, and other machinery.
- Coordinate with supervisors and ground personnel during excavation and loading operations.
- Maintain machine-hour records and report equipment condition as required.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Certificate or recognized vocational/heavy-equipment operator training in Backhoe Operations or a related field.
- Valid relevant machinery/operator licence or certification where applicable.
- Minimum 3 years of practical experience operating backhoe loaders or similar earthmoving equipment.
- Proven ability to perform excavation, trenching, loading, backfilling, and material-handling activities.
- Basic knowledge of backhoe mechanical and hydraulic systems and routine operator maintenance.
- Ability to work accurately around underground or surface infrastructure.
- Strong safety awareness and good machine-control skills.
- Experience in agricultural, irrigation, drainage, construction, or land-development projects will be an added advantage.
